Editorial: The Crucial Times Are Here

Dear Napsites, now that tests and assignments are overwhelming, students often feel a little adrift and the motivation that once propelled them to thrive for academic success seems to be gone. It’s critical to keep in mind that everyone experiences this at times, and that losing motivation occasionally is very normal. But because something is typical does not mean one has to accept it. For one to have desirable grades there is a need for one to be disciplined with one’s study plans. This should not be done to discourage being adaptable but rather to make sure that plans are carried out without postponement or just plain negligence, regardless of how much they are redefined. Be flexible and wise enough to recognize when a change is being implemented merely out of laziness rather than because it is genuinely necessary. Spend as much time as you can doing activities that will keep your sane.

It is important to have fun and involve in extracurricular activities but never at the detriment of one’s academics since the weeks will pass by and exams will roll in then the results will have to stare at you in the face unapologetically. Do not cite the school’s facilities as a justification for your nonchalant attitude towards your academics because despite the federal government’s refusal to pay the backlog in salaries owed to ASUU members, the University of Ibadan is making every effort to maintain its divisions intact and to keep its operations moving forward.

Despite the difficulties and obstacles encountered, one must not forget that this is a time to focus on one’s studies, maintain a healthy lifestyle, learn how to handle stressful situations like “sapa” and “ shege” moments and strive well to increase one’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA). We should remind ourselves to be more composed and never to give up, to always seek knowledge rather than accept less, to study and work better and not to succumb to the rhythm of failure.  Always remember that if life is worth living, then its struggles should be worth our effort(s). Similarly, if education is the best path to take, then overcoming obstacles should be worth our strength.
