A TOW DOWN THE MANIFESTO LANE
"Beyond our certificates, I'd ensure to organise entrepreneurial and skill acquisition programmes for students. Amongst ourselves too are people who are well gifted in one area or another. I'd liaise with them to see how these skills could also be acquired by others."
These are words from the manifesto of our president, Miss Imeobong Umoh Ibok, popularly known as Peggie. As anaspirant for the position of the president of the National Association of Philosophy Students, University of Ibadan (NAPSUI), she had promised entrepreneurial and skill acquisition programmes for students of the department. As much as this gesture is appreciated, knowing when these events will take place will be much more appreciated, as the tenure is only a matter of weeks away from coming to an end.
"I'd also ensure that there is creation of extra archives of books in the library. As such, with an opinion poll, I'd be able to know the kind of books importantly needed and make provisions for them."
It's either the librarian has left us in the dark for long, or this has not been done at all.
"Quizzes and debate competitions will be held, cutting across levels, and this quizzes will be about our courses..."
There was a special release by the department's executives on the 18th of March 2023:
"The Executive council wishes to inform NAPSites that there will be an inter-level debate that will take place on the 12th April for the first round and on the 17th April for the final round.
The debate shall be between 100 and 200 level constituencies, and 300 and 400 level constituencies. The constituency in the two groups with higher scores shall proceed to the final stage. The constituency that wins in the finals will be awarded the prize of Forty Thousand Naira Only (#40,000.00)."
The grand prize is such an attractive one. Yet, we see how it has been subtly intertwined with "before the end of my tenure, through one of the competitions held, the overall winner will be guaranteed his/her school fees paid the following session."
