Finalist of the week

 Finalist of the week

NAPS PRESS: Can we meet?

GLORIA: My names are Gloria Oyaisi Ethiope, a final year student of the department of philosophy, and an aspiring graduand.

NAPS PRESS: Did you pick philosophy or did philosophy choose you?

GLORIA: I never for once thought I would be found in the department of philosophy. All I ever wanted was to be a proud student of the department of English Language, but you know how things works in Nigeria educational system, it's always the issue of post-jamb jamming someone. So Philosophy chose me.

NAPS PRESS: How has the journey been so far?

GLORIA: Well... It has really been a challenging journey and of course inspiring one. Inspiring in the sense that, I never thought I would enjoy the course even though that's not completely true. I wouldn't have come this far if not for God and the wonderful friends/colleagues God surrounded me with. Kudos to them all.

NAPS PRESS: How do you feel about being in your final semester?

GLORIA: Extremely excited and relief! Even though I know that the journey ahead is still very long, I still feel excited about the fact that i will be  ending this phase in no time.

NAPS PRESS: What next?

GLORIA: What next is to take the bull by the horn, face the next phase and achieve what life has to offer me. I must make it!

NAPS PRESS: How has philosophy transformed your thinking, the way you view life, and things in general?

GLORIA: At first, I didn't like philosophy, but as time went by, I somehow developed interest to understand the course because, it at some point helped broaden by reasoning ability and not just accept anything hook, line and sinker.

NAPS PRESS: What would you miss most about philosophy and UI?

GLORIA: I guess I would miss Logic and UI, the frequent strikes. Lol

NAPS PRESS: What is the most precious gift philosophy and or UI gave you?

GLORIA: Well, it would be unfair if I say UI has not helped me in anyway. Apart from the annoying and incessant strikes occurring every time and every year, the University of Ibadan made me to some extent, refined me and helped me define what my purpose in life would be. And this is all thanks to the department of philosophy.  Philosophy gave me beautiful friends who held out their hands to me in my most dire situations and I am grateful for that.

NAPS PRESS: What would say was your worst and most memorable moment in the school?

GLORIA: Hmmm! Memorable moments would be, missing good old times with friends and the worst would be, and I hope I don't face it going forward, reading for a particular question for exams and hoping that it would come out, and end up not seeing it in your question paper and you'll be like... I thought the lecturer assured us in class that this particular question would come out. (I have been served breakfast in the exam hall)

NAPS PRESS: A lot of people have a conception of philosophy, how did your parents handle the news of your admission to study philosophy?

GLORIA: They were unbothered. They just wanted me to leave the house and find my route in life.

NAPS PRESS: What part of philosophy shocked you the most?

GLORIA: Amost all the philosophers of old and recent shocked me with their philosophical postulations and idea... How can you say the whole earth is on water, then I'll go live in a pool.
