In the hallowed halls of academia, where abstract
ideas and profound thoughts collide, here is the scholar who stands at the
precipice of academic euphoria; eagerly awaiting the challenges and revelations
that lie ahead - the beginning of the end. She wonders what happens when the
new semester begins, but the familiar routine of scholarly pursuits is already
tiring.
Well, meet me, the final-year student who is ready to
take you through her journey. With the start of the new academic year, my diary
opens to reveal a fascinating narrative, offering all and sundry a glimpse into
my life as a philosophy student on the cusp of the final chapter.
The Quiet Before the Storm
As the semester begins, I find the campus oddly
serene. Unlike the frenetic pace that occurred few months back, the classrooms
are emptier, the library quieter. It seems the academic storm has not yet hit,
and there's an unusual calm in the air. With no immediate assignments or
readings to tackle, I contemplate the mysteries of existence under the
sprawling oak tree on the quad.
The Return of the Reading List
Just when I was getting accustomed to the leisurely
pace, returning from the newly introduced industrial attachment that involves
putting philosophy into practice, the new curriculum is unveiled and all my
'final-year flex' plans seemingly razed. The weighty reading list stares back,
a formidable challenge for someone who has had plans to sit back and watch the
session run its own course.
The search for wisdom and enlightenment continues, as
I have to delve deeper into the philosophical writings of thinkers who have
grappled with the profound questions of existence. With my long essay also
crying for the slightest attention from me, I dare not get the shock. Now is
the time to get hands on deck. In the world of philosophy, every day is an
opportunity to explore the deepest recesses of the mind.
The Journey Continues
As the semester gradually unfolds, my diary will
reveal to you all that this unique juncture entails. The anticipation of the
coming challenges, the camaraderie with fellow scholars, and the relentless
pursuit of knowledge.
There is undoubtedly a sense of excitement, fervour of
curiosity, and of course, a burden of responsibility about what lies ahead.
Here is where I say I don't know what the future holds
for me but I know the God who holds my future. Are you ready to journey with me
(and my God)?
