Champion Babatunde Balogun

Aanuoluwatomiwa Oke

Babatunde Balogun, the immediate past General Secretary of UCJ and the past Online Editor cum Managing Editor for NAPS PRESS. He continually serves as a channel of inspiration to members of the National Association of Philosophy Students' Press Organization, and the Department of Philosophy at large.

NAPS PRESS: Can we meet you?

Babatunde: I am BALOGUN, Quazeem Babatunde; a recent graduate of the Department of Philosophy, University of Ibadan.

NAPS PRESS: How was being a student of Philosophy like for you?

Babatunde: It was a journey filled with its ups and lows. Unlike other disciplines, Philosophy was introduced to me right in the University. There was nothing like studying ancient philosophers right from secondary school, hence, everything I heard the very first day of lecture sounded like gibberish. In all honesty, it was really rough and tough scaling through, but I’m now convinced that the future is brighter with Philosophy.

NAPS PRESS: Talking about scaling through the "rough and tough", we know that you were able to maximize your potentials as an undergraduate. What sparked your interest in media and lifestyle?

Babatunde: I actually cannot categorically say that this is the exact reason I joined the media. I wanted to do something different from academics, and the students-controlled organization situable for me on campus at that moment was the press. Although, if I didn’t study Philosophy I probably would have studied a communication related course due to my interest for being on the screen. And for the lifestyle, I’m a fashion enthusiast. I get so much confidence in looking good.

NAPS PRESS: Now that you're officially out of the four walls of school, what version of you should we expect to see more - philosophy, media or lifestyle?

Babatunde: That’s undecided for now. To think I can’t even leave out philosophy from any of them. I can actually mention more than ten careers I can switch into and excel at because that’s what Philosophy has equipped us with. It is a discipline I can use to leverage on any career path. However, I am still at the juncture of filtering the most suitable among these three; Human Resources and Development, Communication and Media or Business Administration(MBA).

NAPS PRESS: You served in various capacities as a campus journalist. How were you able to dedicate yourself to your academics and the press?

Babatunde: I live by a simple mantra- anything worth doing at all is worth doing well. I detest idleness. I am a sucker for good result. I signed up for it, so I’m expected to do it well. It irks me when I see someone underperforming in any organization. If you can’t do it efficiently, tender your resignation letter. The offices I occupied as a campus journalist affected my academics positively!

NAPS PRESS: What words do you have for NAPSITES?

Babatunde: Firstly, if you found yourself in this department accidentally, please embrace it. You wouldn’t know the importance of being here until you start believing in yourself. Be intentional about your choice of friends, they may make or mar you.

NAPS PRESS: Thank you so much for your time.
