Lil Nas X is a Nigerian musician with controversies and criticism for his outgoing and daring style in music, fashion sense and music videos. He releasesd his new music video of his song ‘J Christ’. The video features celebrity look-alikes, including representations of Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and Barack Obama, all clad in white attire as they stand in line for a stairway to heaven.
In the video, Lil Nas X himself is dressed in white clothing, sporting knee-high boots and a gold halo, creating a celestial ambiance. However, the video takes an unexpected turn as the rapper also assumes the role of the devil and embarks on a journey southward. Notably, there's a scene where he engages in a basketball game with the devil, reminiscent of gladiatorial contests in a coliseum.
Lil Nas X's video incorporates controversial moments, including his portrayal of being crucified adorned with a crown of thorns. He also takes on the role of Noah, gathering animals in pairs onto the ark to rescue them from a flood. The artist had previously faced substantial criticism for his song "Montero," in which he descended a pole to hell to seduce the devil and performed a lap dance on Satan.
Despite sparking intense debate and accusations of religious insensitivity, Lil Nas X's artistic choices continue to push boundaries and raise questions about the use of religious symbolism in popular culture.
