'Angst': A Handicap to Academic Success

Being in a state of 'angst' may always leave you at risk for instability when dealing with an academic workload. Students with anxiety disorder exhibit a passive attitude in their studies such as a lack of interest in learning, and poor performance in presentations, examinations, and assignments. Everyone gets anxious at one time or another but a high level of angst or anxiety interferes with concentration and academic goals which are critical for academic success.

Academic anxiety might be a result of having to give a presentation in front of the class or prepare for a forthcoming test. Perhaps, you feel worried every time you haven't covered a plethora of materials that is expected of you. These experiences of feeling under pressure at school are not uncommon. However, school is an environment where new skills are learned and sharpened to the point of impacting the world positively. It is the job of the lecturers to judge how well a student is learning and practicing these skills through the assignments given, or the examinations and presentations conducted.

To manage academic anxiety, it is important to know yourself and acknowledge how you're feeling. When you experience anxiety about schoolwork, tests, or presentations, make an attempt to share your burden or feeling with a friend, a trained mental health professional, or a counselor who can help you manage the very stress you're good through.

To overcome academic angst, try not to compare yourself with others. Instead, you need to discover what works for you and follow strictly in that pattern. Also, try to plan your time to keep track of your academic workload so you can keep up with deadlines.

Managing academic anxiety requires considering 'peer support' to be an important idea. It's pure wisdom when you don't isolate yourself from friends that can be of great value to your academic life. In this case, you can derive help by learning from the experiences of others.
