He/she is wearing a Ankara blazer, paired effortlessly with jeans and a pair of crisp white sneakers. What comes to mind? You immediately say, “STEEZE”, what a perfect blend of tradition and modernity.

In today’s Nigeria, young people are redefining fashion by mixing traditional attire with contemporary styles. It’s a creative way of staying connected to cultural roots while embracing the trends of the 21st century.

This blend of old and new is everywhere. From the  streets of Lagos to university campuses in Ibadan, young Nigerians are taking traditional attire like Ankara and Aso Oke and turning them into modern  statements.

Let us think of a classic agbada, but now worn with a pair of trendy loafers, or an Ankara dress styled with a leather jacket. These combinations are not just about fashion but about expressing identity in a world where cultural lines are constantly being thined.

What’s however driving this trend? For many, it’s a way of honoring and retaining their heritage while still fitting into a globalized world. It’s about showing that you can be proudly Nigerian and still engage with modern fashion. Fashion in this sense doesn't need choose between old and new. Nigerians are proving that while having a merge, you can always make a statement, you can be creative and consequently maintain your cultural pride.
