Team Proactive Holds First Congress for the Session

The National Association of Philosophy Students (NAPS)University of Ibadan held her Congress on Wednesday 26th of August, 2024.
The Congress which started at 12:00PM had in attendance some members of the association including the president and the members of his cabinet.
The Congress which was headed by the President was held because of some disturbing issues surrounding the constitution of the association and the financial expenditure of the administration.
The first issue which was raised by the President and his Cabinet members from the Congress was some grammatical errors made in the constitution among many other issues like:
1. The contradiction in the logo and motto of the association.
2. The office of the student Librarian which states that the Librarian is an Officer of the Executive Council and he or she is responsible to organize tutorials for NAPSites.
The President found this quite displeasing as the position of the student Librarian ought not to be a member of the executive council as he or she is not elected by NAPSites but rather chosen by Lecturers of the department.
The President went further by explaining that in previous years, the student Librarian has not been responsible for organizing tutorials for NAPSites. Organizing tutorials has always been the responsibility of the elected executive council of the association according to him.
The remaining issues raised in the Congress were the office of the Public Relations Officer, the constitution's recognition of only the Dean's cup tournament, and the merchandise of the departmental T-shirts and face caps for NAPSites.
The fourth issue concerning the review and amendment of the constitution is the office of the Public Relations Officer being the link between NAPS Press, NAPSites and the Executive Council as it is written in the constitution.
The financial Secretary also gave an account of how funds were spent for the Freshers welcome, some repairs done in the Post Graduate Room, and the student rest room.
She also stated the total number of NAPSites who have paid their basic dues from the 200 level constituency to the 400 level constituency.
According to her, from the 100 level constituency, 71 people have paid for their basic dues while 10 people for dinner.
• From the 200 level constituency, 8 people have paid for basic dues while 1 person has paid for dinner.
• From the 300 level constituency, 20 people have made payment for basic dues while 5 people have paid for dinner.
•From the 400 level constituency, 6 people have paid for only basic dues.
Before the end of the Congress, the President stated that a constitutional amendment committee will be set up which will comprise two members each from the Executive Council, LRC members, Level members and from the Press arm respectively.
