Meet Ella; the finalist of the week

NAPS PRESS UI: Can we meet you?

ELLA: I'm Okwudiri Chinaecherem Emmanuela, mostly known as Neche by close friends and 'Ella' by others. A final year student of Philosophy, a feminist apologist, writer, and crochet designer...amongst others.

NAPS PRESS UI: Did you choose Philosophy or Philosophy chose you?

ELLA:  Both. I chose to change my course of study to Philosophy when I didn't get the cut off for Law. So, in a way, I guess I can say Philosophy chose me and I chose Philosophy.

NAPS PRESS UI: How has your academic journey been so far?

ELLA: Stressful and disappointing. For me, this department has a way of turning all your academic efforts and expectations to mush. And even if you enjoy a particular course, the reward you get isn't passing in flying colors. Suffice to say,  I have given up on striving to do well academically as far as it concerns this department.

My advice to people is not to waste their energy though, and to do what works for them.

NAPS PRESS UI: which do you prefer; physical or virtual lectures?

ELLA: Physical definitely. You interact more in class, and it's easier to catch up when you don't have terrible network or unmuted mics or people doing funny things in front of their screens.

NAPS PRESS UI Do you think this virtual mode of learning would affect the academic performance of students in any way?

ELLA: Yes. Definitely. Not everyone has the resources for this, especially in a country that constantly sucks the life force of her citizens on a daily basis. It's either students spend so much money on data, or the lecturers are still getting used to teaching virtually. Even then, you'd still have a few things that you have to do physically at school, so what is actually the point of stressing students? We've had virtual classes with lecturers telling us to submit assignments physically, when we could just send them to their mails. That defeats the point of virtual learning then, doesn't it?

NAPS PRESS UI: What's your philosophy of life?

ELLA:  I'm not so sure that I have one. If I do, it'll probably be something along the lines of 'In all you do, make sure you find existential peace.' Not money, not fame or riches or even a good name (though it is a good thing). Peace.

NAPS PRESS UI: What do you think can contribute to the growth of philosophy department?

ELLA: A change of curriculum, and lesser students thinking they have sense just because they managed to scratch the surface of the Philosophical discipline. Oh, and lecturers that actually like seeing students pass.

NAPS PRESS UI: What is that one thing you would love to change if you can go back in time about Philosophy department?

ELLA: Err...I have no idea.

NAPS PRESS UI What do you intend to do with your Philosophy degree?

ELLA: Get a Masters degree overseas and a PhD if I'm up for it, write and lecture.

NAPS PRESS UI: Any memorable moment(s)?

ELLA: There are many. But I think one is when I stripped for a class presentation in one of Prof Afolayan's class, I was wearing clothes underneath though

NAPS PRESS UI: Shout out to anyone.

ELLA: They're plenty. Bolu, Tenabe, Ini, Seun, Ik, Ebube, Temiloluwa, Tosin, Sheyi...the lot of you have made me days at school memorable and pleasurable. To all my course mates too.

NAPS PRESS UI: Relationship status?

ELLA: I'm the singlest Singleton.

NAPS PRESS UI: What do you think the current administration of the department should focus more on?

ELLA: Wo, me I don't know. They should focus on improving the packages and social events for NAPSITES I guess.

NAPS PRESS UI: Advice to all NAPSITES?

ELLA: Don't go and do pass yourself. Don't stress yourself either. This department doesn't worth it. Do everything you want to do. Don't say because I'm in school I have to be serious and read. My dear, it will shock you after 4 years of nothing.
