ANTHONY JOSHUA GOT BOXED

 ANTHONY JOSHUA GOT BOXED

It was such a heartrending, unexpected and unprecedented outcome of event for sport lovers, especially boxing, when the Nigerian-British boxing star, Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua, lost his four heavyweight world titles (WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO) at once to the undefeated to the Ukrainian and former cruiserweight champion, Oleksadr Usyk, on Saturday, 25th of September, 2021, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, in the presence of 67,000 fans.

Anthony Joshua who had his 26th professional career fight on Sunday has had a quite  impressive stats in his career, having won 24 of his 26 fight through knock outs(Kos), and won two on judges’ unanimous decision and only suffering two defeats in all; one from Andy Ruiz and the second from his recent loss to Alexandr Usyk. Usyk on the other hand, popularly referred to as ‘the cat’ has had 19 career fight and has won 13 on knock outs (Kos) and 6 on unanimous decision, and has recorded no losses in his career.

As many though, the match was believed to be a walkover for Anthony Joshua but unfortunately things didn’t go well as assumed. Anthony Joshua was stunned by Usyk’s deftness and classic display in the ring – he took the match to the pick from the very beginning leaving little or no chance for Joshua to strike. Although Joshua, through unanimous decision won some rounds (the first, second, fifth, sixth and eight rounds) according to Foster, but it was not enough to secure the win and retain his titles.

After a long-stretched 12rounds of fight Alexandr Usyk was crowned the new champion through the judges’ unanimous decisions, thereby making him the third fighter after Evander Holyfield and David Haye to win world titles as cruiserweight and heavyweight. However, a rematch for the title defense between these two athletes has been agreed up, although the date, time and venue still remain undisclosed.
