Amidst ASUU's one-month warning strike that officially started on Monday, 14th of February, the university of Ibadan held its matriculation ceremony for the 2021/2022 session, on Wednesday, 16th of February, 2022. The event was held physically and all COVID-19 protocols was duly observed, unlike the previous session which was held virtually due to the pandemic
The ceremony officially ushered in over 4,000 newly admitted students into the prestigious university. The matriculation process of the University, for new students usually comprises of the oath-taking process where the new students pledge their allegiance to the school and her excellent standards and are officially welcomed to the university.
During the event, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale made it known that about 63,000 candidates chose the University of Ibadan as their first-choice university, while registering for JAMB, while he was addressing the students. However, only 13,000 students out of the number met the cut-off mark of 200 and above. Also, out of the 13, 000 students who met up with the cutoff mark of 200, only over 4000 students were admitted into the university on merit after sitting for the school's post UTME.
Also present at the event was the founder of Soupah limited, Mrs. Ifeoluwa Tayo, an Alumna of the university, who gave the matriculation speech. According to her, newly admitted students are encouraged to strive for academic excellence and maintain the quality that the University of Ibadan is known for across the globe.
