The second game of the group stage ended in a victory over Geology by two goals to one. Praise scored the opener in the early minutes from a long ranger free-kick. The Geology goalkeeper failed to react properly to the shot and Philosophy took the lead.
Geology leveled before halftime from the penalty spot after a rough tackle in the Philosophy box. The Plato boys were able to walk away with maximum points after a sublime corner kick from Awolowo was headed home by John in the wee minutes of the game.
Despite the victory, Philosophy struggled in the first half due to the absence of key players from the beginning of the game.
The last game of the group stage saw Philosophy cruise pastthe department of Library and Archival Studies by 4 goals. Jubril opened the scoreline with a beautiful long-ranger from far out after being teed by the Plato wingback, Ibrahim.
John completed his hat-trick in the game after heading home a relentless cross from Awolowo. The 200 level striker would probably be one of the top-scorers in the competition after racking up five goals in three games. He would be looking to add to his tally as they progress in the competition.
NAPS Press Sports desk reached out to the organizer of the competition, Olawale Joshua (OJB), the Students’ Union Sports Secretary, for the list of the top-scorers of the competition so far; he claimed that he and his team are working on a compilation. Until the time of this publication, Mr Olawale has not gotten back to us.
Following the conclusion of the group stages, Philosophy will be facing Psychology in the round of 16. The two sides last met in a friendly game where Philosophy came out on top with three unopposed goals.
