Editorial: It’s Exam 0’Clock

 DEAR  NAPSITES!

It’s that time of the year again; exam period complete with all the anxiety, sleepless nights and frantic last minute preparations that come with it. Many students undoubtedly feel unprepared, very justifiable given the preceding circumstances. An 8 month long strike, one of the longest in the history of ASUU strikes, a few weeks of teaching and revision then end of the year and new year festivities which many students didn’t even get to enjoy.

For freshers, it hasn’t exactly been an ideal situation seeing that this would be their first exam in the university system. For Stalites, particularly finalists, battling to salvage their CGPA’s while struggling with a loss of the initial drive they might have had for academic activities, it hasn’t exactly been easy either. But UI calls, and it is mandatory for all to answer. Here are a few things to remember during this period:

● Eat and rest well: Many students find it almost impossible to do this during exams, forgetting that sound body health is imperative for proper functioning of their brains. A lot of students break down during exams. The irony of this being that whether you are in the school health center or not, as long as you are conscious, you’d still write your exams. So remember to eat at least one proper meal a day and rest in between. Take regular power naps if you decide not to sleep long stretches.

● Read. As much as you possibly can. Practice past questions and try not to do it on a group chat where your lecturer is present! Taking exam questions out of the hall isn’t exactly allowed but it’s something most lecturers are willing to overlook. Try and not leave any chapters out when you read.  That one chapter you are tempted to ignore might make all the difference.

● Say No to Examination Malpractice! UI has a strict no malpractice policy and its lecturers are very ready to enforce it. Endeavor to stay out of trouble. It’d be extremely unfortunate if all your hard work went to waste because you were caught talking in an examination hall.

● Study with friends. For many students, group work does the magic. A different perspective might be all you need to put things into focus. So, do not forsake the assembly of your course mates.

● Finally, remember that the turn out of any exam doesn’t determine your worth as an individual.  It would most likely affect your CGPA but remember that you are still an intelligent individual regardless and that there’s always room to do better in the coming semester.

Wishing you all success in your examinations!!!
