Following Plato Academy’s narrow 1-0 win over Psychology in the Round of 16, Plato Academy struggled to beat Political Science in regular time, with the tie ending in a penalty shootout.
The only change in the last lineup that faced Psychology was Keye replacing Sulaimon in the middle of the park against Political Science
The first half witnessed both teams having their fair share of chances taking an halftime lead. Political Science got close on few occasions but the lack of composure of their frontman impeded them of a first half lead.
Philosophy also had the chance to go ahead after Awolowo’s long ranger hit the crossbar in the first half of the game. The first half ended with both teams failing to get a goal.
Philosophy had a rather weak start in the second half after an unexpected defensive miscalculation led to a goal for Political Science.
Philosophy players strived to get themselves back in the game on few occasions. Awolowo attempted going all the way from several corner kicks but saw his efforts either hitting the crossbar or being parried by the Political Science goalkeeper.
The breakthrough came for Plato Academy when they finallygrabbed an equalizer after the Political Science goalkeeperspilled a weak shot for a John’s tap-in; his seventh in five games.
Philosophy were denied a late winner by an astonishing save from the Political Science goalkeeper from a John’s closerange header, who was teed from a sublime Lakesjay’s cross.
The game went to shootouts with Philosophy scoring five of their six and Political Science scoring four of their six.
Philosophy will square up against Kinetic and Health Education in their semifinal game on Tuesday, 13th of December.
