Second semester in UI is always a goody-bag bundled with loads of extracurricular activities. It is the most enthralling period of the session because of the manner in which it is laden in with sporting activities.
Sport lovers can be super happy that this semester offers them a catalogue of sporting activities they canparticipate in, either as spectators or participants. Here is a list of sporting events to watch out for:
• Super Four/ inter level: Super Four is a competition of the last four teams in the last edition of the Dean’s cup. This competition mostly precedes every other footballing activities in the Faculty of Arts.
Plato Academy failed to book a spot in this year’s edition after falling short of a semifinal spot when they lost their quarter final clash against Classics in the last Dean’s Cup.
Inter level, on the other hand, is a novel competition between all the levels in the Faculty of Art, and is set to take place in the same week as the Super Four, as we have gathered from the Faculty Sports Director, Prime.
• Survival: This is a football tournament across all 200 levels in every department in the University. However, participating departments are allowed to either merge with other departments or take some few players fromtheir department’s 100 level players as allowed by the organizing committee of the competition.
• Inter Hall: Inter hall switches the allegiance of spectators and players from their departments/faculties to their halls. It features all the male halls in UI. This competition is always grand due to the teeming crowd it pulls.
• Inter Faculty: If there is another competition that pulls off a large number of attendance apart from Inter Hall, Inter Faculty it is. Apart from football, this competition also consists other sports like volleyball.
• Super Cup: This year’s edition will be the second edition of the Super cup if it holds again. It is a one-off game between the winners of the inter hall and inter faculty. The Faculty of the social sciences are the current holders of the last one after beating Nnamdi Azikwe Hall who were the winners of the last inter hall competition.
• Dean’s Tournament: This competition is the refined version of the Dean’s Cup. Past editions of the Dean’s Cup has only witnessed football face offs. This revised competition however, will feature other sports like athletics and games like chess, scrabbles and what have you.
NAPS press sports desk maintained from Prime that the tournament will be judged on points split across each sport and game. He further stated that the winner will emerge based on the total number of points accumulated. The Sports director of the winning department will also be announced as the Sports director of the year, according to Prime.
