News: INEC PROMISES TO PUNISH OFFICIALS FOUND GUILTY OF OFFENSES.

Prior to the recently held Presidential Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission has vowed to punish officials, including ad-hoc or collation personnel, whom may have been found wanting in the conduct of the Saturday, February 25 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

This was disclosed by the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Saturday in Abuja during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners.

He stated that as they approached Governorship and State Assembly elections, INEC officials have the mandate to work harder to overcome the challenges experienced in the last election.

He therefore stated that no official found negligent, must be involved in the forthcoming election, whether they are regular or ad hoc officials, including Collation and Returning Officers, adding that RECs must immediately initiate disciplinary action “where prima facie evidence of wrongdoing has been established.
