On the episode of things you must do before you die, here is a movie you should see before you die: the recently released movie, 'A Tribe Called Judah' (ATCJ) by the award-winning actress and director, Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jennifer. To those that have seen it, gbayi! But if you've not seen this movie till now, ah! Someone is saying "what's with all these hype around this recently released movie by Funke Akindele?" Or are you sitting pretty on the "most hyped movies don't turn out interesting. More reason I don't want to watch it" table? Then here are five reasons you should see this movie.
1. Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and Funke Akindele herself, ATCJ released on December 15th, is the first nollywood film to gross over ₦113 million in its opening weekend and hit 1 billion naira in the box office. The first ever nollywood movie to hit that high. Yet you've refused to see it. Why? Such a groundbreaking movie deserves a watch from you. Add it you your must-watch list today.
2. ATCJ is one of the few nollywood movies that caught a lot of people by a surprising storyline. Not to be a spoiler, but having a twisted and unpredictable storyline about a woman who has five boys for different men, from different tribes, is not a thing some audience expected. However, that was exactly what made the movie interesting. An average Nigerian would want to understand what could have transpired to make a woman give birth to five children from five different men without being promiscuous. You really need to see this movie.
3. ATCJ is not your regular, African Magic Epic story line where a king is looking for a virtuous wife for the prince, or a poor girl falling in love with a rich man. It is a movie depicting a quite sensitive part of our society that is less spoken of. It includes the struggles of a single mother or any single parent. It shows the need for love despite our differences or background (how unity can be amongst people of different tribes), and whether it is justified that which is considered evil for a good cause. Such an educational movie mixed with some comedy should be on your must-watch list.
