A wonderful week to all NAPSITES out there. Some of you might
be reading this from your rented apartments around the campus, and mostly from the
comforts of your various homes. I believe It's no new topic to you that Virtual
Learning is now the talk of the town, not only in University of Ibadan but in some
other institutions too. It is pertinent that we all learn to adapt to this change.
Roumors have been spreading around like wildfire about the advantages as well as
the demerits of Virtual Learning which is expected. So, how about we discuss on
various ways by which you can equip yourselves to succeed in this Virtual semester.
1- Create a positive Virtual Learning environment. If you were
to be on campus, when it's time for lectures you go to your lecture rooms. But now
that no one is allowed to teach within the four walls because of the covid, you
might as well have to stay indoor for your onine lectures. You don't have to travel
to the ends of the earth to change things up. Take the learning outdoors and set
up a backyard staycation learning environment, complete with tent, campfire, and
sleeping bags. Make sure this area is quiet or has a door that can be closed. Have
a chair and Table at least, plus school supplies such as pen, pencils, notebooks,
e.t.c within your reach.
2- Create a Calendar. This isn't new because as a student, you
got to have a calendar with which you read and give yourself breaks, the same way
you do on campus. No on will start running after you to set a calendar and read,
it's all up to you to grow into yourself and make your decisions. This guide is
used to find what assessment is due every week.
3- Have the right supplies. A quality printer, a whiteboard,
plenty of dry erase markers and a wall map are staples. While you don’t need fancy
supplies and technology for a successful virtual school year, the following items
can help keep you focused, on-task, and engaged. A tablet for on the go learning
or as a change of pace, Noise-canceling headphones to block out distractions, Blue
light filtering glasses or screen enabled blue light filter, a lapdesk works well
for a laptop and allows you to move around the house.
4- Streamline recommend books and essays to fill in your course
materials. You've been doing this even before the Covid, but now you'll have to
do more of it. Get your course outlines ready, go online and download likely books
and essays from renowned/recommend writers to serve as backups for your notes. You'll
have to be online as much as you can not to miss out on any given assignment, project
and important lectures. Extend your learning by downloading video clips that are
related to (as well as help you understand) your courses.
5- Be prayerful, always! Don't become so intelligent that you'll think you don't need God. Life is supernatural.
Lastly, a friendly and unpaid advice for me: Stay indoors there is debit alert outside and you should avoid it at all cost.
