The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has decried the rumor of requesting donation from the public for the purchase of data for students. This was to canter the graphics with the inscription of “Sponsors a UI students” flying around on different WhatsApp groups. The special release from the Union reads in part:
“This is to inform the public that the Students' Union has not in any time and anyway asked the public to donate any money for the purchase of Data”
It will be recalled that the meeting held at Students’ Union building January 18, where the President stated “The Executives are working on getting subsidized data plan for students. We put a call through to a telecommunication company (MTN) today and their representative promised to get back to us. Once the plan is successful, students will be asked to send their numbers which will be recorded in subsidized list”
However, till date, the Union is yet to release any official statement regarding their effort in getting subsidized data plans for students
