Must- Have Healthy Lifestyles

So, what exactly are we discussing today? We would be discussing Lifestyle. A brief knowledge of the subject matter is however pertinent. So, lifestyle simply put is your life engagements, your ideals, values or in a more lay man's language, ‘the way you do your thing’. And it can also be referred to as; 'the way you style your life'. Lifestyle, as simple as it sounds, is important in every man’s life: it gives one’s life a bearing, helps you to be productive and even relevant in your world.


“An unexamined life is not worth living”, Socrates. Just like this quote from one of the most renowned Philosophers, Socrates states; In other words, a life void of lifestyle(examined life) is a lifeless life – which shouldn’t have existed in the first place. Hence, a need for a lifestyle is just as important as having a life itself. And so, I’d be taking you through some lifestyles you should imbibe that can make your life worth living:

1. MAKE A TO-DO LIST. A to-do list is simply an outline of what you intend to achieve during the course of a day. It may look insignificant but trust me it works. It has a positive psychological effects on our minds, prepares us for the task ahead and reduces the level of anxiety which should have come with those tasks. It also helps to be orderly and avoids wastage of time if followed judiciously

2. SMILE: We all know Nigeria is not smiling, nothing seems to be working, the breakfast of frustration is flying here and there. But then, one important lifestyle you wouldn’t want to discard regardless of all these is SMILING. When you put a smile on your face(even when there’s nothing to smile about), you program your brain to think positively and you will attract positivity throughout your day. It would mitigate the crushing effect of anything that is going to happen that day

3. READ SOMETHING POSITIVE: what you read plays a huge role in the formation of your future and the personality you’d become. The digital age has exposed us to so many things, both positive and negative; it’d be a wise choice to exploit that positive aspect and make it a lifestyle. And as the saying goes ‘all leaders are readers’, so if you wish to lead, make positive reading a lifestyle. But if you desire to remain an underdog, you can decide to ignore.

4. REWARD YOURSELF: This is one crucial thing  you must make a lifestyle – learn to appreciate yourself. Bro/Sis, it’s not all the time that you should concentrate your energy on the things you haven’t achieved yet and consequently blowing hot on yourself – with the little win you’ve had, celebrate yourself! It could be taking a time out, or merely whispering some positive words to yourself like ‘you are doing well', ‘I would get there’, ‘you’re doing your best’. By so doing you are sending a positive signal to your mind which would in turn generate the needed strength to circumvent daily hurdles.

From the above, we’ve considered four important ideas that should be imbibed as a lifestyle  and their importance. By next week we’d consider some other practical ideas you can also adopt as lifestyles. Finally, I’d like to leave you on this note - remember that ; ‘a life without a lifestyle is a lifeless life that’s not worth living”. So, get ONE.
