Senator Ali Ndume Urges the Federal Government to Increase the Military Budget
The Nations made it known that the Federal Government of Nigeria has been urged by Ali Ndume, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, to increase the budget of the military in order to be able to get arms that are suitable for defeating Boko Haram insurgents.
He insisted that there is need for modern and superior weapons to defeat the insurgents and the budget of the Army will not be able to get the weapons.
Responding to a question, Ndume said: “We are spending a lot of money on the Armed Forces, but we are not spending enough on the procurement of modern equipment to fight the war.
“It is a different thing when we have a high personnel and overhead cost and a different scenario when you’re spending a little to acquire the necessary equipment, arms and ammunition.
“I’ve been crying
out that the budget, every year, for the procurement of arms and ammunition, is
too small.” We hope this triggers the government to see to this very important need
