The Data Subscription We All Expect…

                     

“Never expect some things,” a wise woman once said, “It is better to feel surprised


than to feel disappointed.”

Is it fair to hold on to this saying as regards the data subscription the University of Ibadan promised her students? Or should the “Audio data” still be expected?

It’s been almost one month since the University promised to provide her students with data subscription that would ensure hitch and hassle-free e-learning, but so far, nothing is forthcoming.

As it stands now, most students get logged out of the e-learning platform unexpectedly while lectures are still ongoing, due to their self-provided data not being capable enough to carry or withstand the pressure of the data consuming applications, documents and audio files from their e-classes.

Imagine students who can afford only 1 gigabyte of MTN data subscription every week or fortnight, now receive data subscription expiration message from MTN barely two hours after buying the data plan, stating why they cannot continue with the classes, thanks to Telegram, Zoom and WhatsApp, coupled with the download of large academic documents and audio files.

What would such students do if they had no extra money to get more data to complete the ongoing class? Would it be fair for such students to suffer under the weight of a system that was imposed on them? Well, what does it matter when our very own essence as a people in Nigeria is imposed on us? What then is data from the University that we cannot overlook? However, on the flip side, it is not
