The Faculty of Arts (AFAS) Executives organizes town hall meeting together with funfair at the faculty’s quadrangle.

The following principal officers of the faculty present at the event include; Professor Olatunji Oyeshile (Dean), Dr Tunde Blavo (Sub-Dean General), Mrs Oluwatoyin Dibosa (Faculty Officer), Dr Ajayi and Dr Mrs Bimbo Benson (Staff advisers)I and II respectively), Mrs Adebukola (Administrative Officer) and Dr Adams Akeula.

Recall that the electoral committee at the faculty recently rolled out 3.0 as the required CGPA for aspirants vying for the executive positions as against 2.5 earlier stated.

In reacting to this, the General Secretary of the association, Mr. Adjei Nana at the meeting requested to know the sudden change in CGPA. “The decision was not solely made by the faculty but from the Senate of the University”, - Dr. Tunde Blavo

In addition, Daniel Peniel, the Financial Secretary of the association asked question on why the former Department of Music building is being abandoned. The Dean of the faculty responded that the building have some structural flaws which was made known by the Kenneth Dike Library staff when they came to inspect the building. However, there are plans on getting professionals to correct the structural flaws and the faculty is ready to do whatever they are told to do, in order to make the building useful again.

Speaking further, he also stated that there has been proposal to composing an anthem for the faculty, meanwhile, making the anthem is not an issue but why make an anthem for the faculty when the students cannot even recite the UI Anthem. However, there will be inter departmental competition that will include recitation of the UI anthem and debate just like they did in 1985 during his undergraduate and reward will not only be in naira but in foreign currencies too.

In conclusion, the Dean advised the students to stay safe and avoid self medication whenever they are not feeling too good. He also admonished those who took the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to make themselves available for the second dose which will be available soon.
