Zik Hall Emerges Winner of The Inter-Hall Football
It was a splendid sight to behold at SUB pitch on the 24th September 2021 as students trooped out to the SUB pitch to give support to their halls of residence. The sound of drums and trumpet rend the atmosphere as the Balubas sang euphorically and dusts to the air as they danced unreservedly. Zik hall and Sultan Bello hall drew the curtain on the inter-hall football competition that commenced some weeks ago, as they both went in loggerhead and engaged in the battle feet in the quest for the trophy.
The game seems locked initially in the first four minutes into the game. However, the deadlock was broken in the fifth minute, when a free kick was converted by Afoo(10) and gave Zik the lead. No thanks to the loosed grip by the goal keeper.
Almost 30min into the game Zik hall picked their second goal from a square played ball by Skinny(11) which was subtly ushered into the net by the striker.
However, a few minute before halftime, a defender from Zik hall made a costly mistake by pushing a Belloite in the box. Consequently, the Belloite were awarded a penalty. And John made no mistake in converting the spot kick. The score was 2-1 at half time.
The second half started on full energy from both sides, neither of them was willing to concede. Zik hall pressed for goal, but Bello on the other hand wouldn’t settle in. At some point towards the end of the match the Bellite pressed hard and it seemed as though they would equalize. They had their chances. At this point, the Zikite supporters had a lingering hope. However, the Belloites had their hopes irreparably dashed when Skinny put a die minute goal at the back of the net making the score 3-1. Welled up in a full-blown excitement, without having blown the final whistle, the Zikites supporters stormed the pitch in their hundred with a wooden coffin-like object that had on it ‘the final burial of Sultan Bello hall’. Zik hall eventually lifted the trophy, thrilling the Bello on 3 goals to 1.
