PUT PEOPLE FIRST!
Unlike other things of mysterious importance, it is pertinent to establish the fact that the Philosophy of putting people first involves a set of actions that is concerned with making the people of an organization or shareholders a priority, with respects to their value and profits, even if it is going to be the case that a leader in such position must make personal sacrifices. The point here is not to sweet-talk, but to ask if we truly see this often? Welcome to a new week of continuous improvements.
The Nigeria we find ourselves seems to be lacking this one very most important value in its core. The Nigerian government in charge of making the country a better place, if they truly had it at the back of their minds to always put the interest of the citizens first, we would have had a better country and lived better. Nigeria is battling high production costs with very low oil costs. With the way oil prices fall and rise day after day as well as many other goods and services, such that the cost of living becomes unbearable, high unemployment rates and poverty becomes rampant, a good example that confirms that Nigeria stands, but divided. It is important to note that poverty and hike in prices of oil and other services are not the only thing halting Nigeria's progress, social issues has also formed a huge roadblock in the way of furthering the country.
In our various societies, as social animals, we also contribute to the problems and challenges we battle everyday. If we took it as a point of responsibility to always put people first in our dealings and transactions, the cases of fraud( internet-fraud especially), kidnapping, murder and rituals, and many other sinister behaviors would have been cut down to a minimum. As a leader in (for example; a business), one ought to believe that it is an important and required value to possess the spirit of altruism, not just having it but giving out as well as exhibiting such values by caring for the people who helped build the business such as the employees, even if it means making personal sacrifices. This is lacking in our society today and has, is and will continue to hinder progress and development if such value is not being applied in our day to day activities. A very important way of applying this value is for leaders or bosses in various businesses, companies, leaders of a particular congregation or that of an institution, to invest in their subjects as necessary, avoiding to do just this causes workers, co-workers and employees especially, not giving much support to the progress of their organization.
Is an institution such as the University of Ibadan free of these allegations? Absolutely not. Whatever is capable of striking the Shepard to his death can also infiltrate a herd of sheep, ending them one after the other. In this case, the problem of not putting people first has its background starting from smaller units such as the family, down to departments and faculties in a university, as well as other bigger sectors. According to Mary Kay Ash, pretend that every person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says, "Make me feel important." Not only will you succeed in sales, you will succeed in life, the same goes for organizations and Nigeria as a whole. Your ability to get along well with your wives and children as a family, co-workers and employees, congregation and business partners, et cetera, all contributes to our development, our progress, and that of the country at large.
Finally, understanding what it means to be a leader, as a boss, co-worker or employee, as a leader of a congregation or member of a religious community, as a faculty or departmental President, Hall Mayor, the Vice Chancellor of a university, down to the president of the country and the citizens as well, you are the lighthouse that guides other people to success in a safe way, and your job is to help make other people more successful, even more successful than you!
Once again, to all Noble NAPSITE, have a wonderful week. Stay blessed, be safe.
