Another trophy won
Hail the new world Champions – hail Chelsea football club!
The win over Palmeiras at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, fetched Chelsea their third trophy since the arrival of their new coach, Thomas Tuchel, in January 2021; the first being the 2021 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, the Super Cup and now and the Club World Cup.
The Club World Cup competition began in the year 2000 and became full-fledged in 2004, it’s a competition that holds amongst the major title winners from different continents like Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.
The match between these two sides had been earlier presumed to be a walkover for Chelsea, which in fact was the case when the Belgian big boy, Romelu Lukaku, put Chelsea ahead with a header in the 53rd minute, through square-play from Hudson Odoi. Things however got extra tense when Palmeiras were awarded a penalty in the 63rd minute through a handball in the box from Thiago Silva. Raphael Veiga scored from the spot thus leveling the score. The scored remained the same even as both teams wrestled into an unprecedented extra time.
Luck however shone on Chelsea in the 120+minutes into the game when Chelsea were also after several replays from VAR to confirm if the ball was truly a handball in the box. And yes, it was! And the German, Kai Havertz, did the execution from the spot. Behold the Champions!
