An interview with Final year student of Department of Philosophy, University of Ibadan
NAPS PRESS: Can we meet you?
BATMAN: Yea. I am Ogbeni Sulaimon Mikail Abiola, fondly called SULE or more commonly, BATMAN.
NAPS PRESS: What inspired your being called 'Batman'?
BATMAN: Oh my God! I didn't see it coming. Fine. Basically, I got the moniker because of my activistic nature. I have a very long history of speaking up in the face of perceived injustice. And somehow, a guy that was really impressed by what I stand for asked for my name. And I said, 'I am Sulaiman.' And as a way of hailing me for my exploits, he said: SULAIMAN SPIDER-MAN BATMAN! And since then, the name sticked.
NAPS PRESS: What was your first impression about philosophy?
BATMAN: Well, it was more of 'let me do this and in my second year get a transfer' and leave for something I really want to do. But come to think of it, the impression wasn't really bad, and wasn't really good because during our orientation, when a student asked what we could do with Philosophy, then the lecturer said, 'you can work anywhere.' Simply put, the impression wasn't too good.
NAPS PRESS: So, you chose philosophy?
BATMAN: Practically, Philosophy chose me. I never wanted to go for this.
NAPS PRESS: As a final year student of Philosophy, do you think the journey is worthwhile, and why?
BATMAN: Yes. Truth be told, it's a journey I won't regret I had. And the reason is simple, my classmates are some of the most brainy individuals I have met on this celestial sphere that shaves its head with hoe (ilẹ̀ ọ̀gẹ́rẹ́ af'ọkọ́ yeri - an aphorism for earth). They are the reflection of everything I am; and everything I am becoming. And again, my lecturers, too brilliant and kind to a fault. They never hold anything back with me. Kudos to them for all the native intelligence I have. Don't let me bore you, aiswearugud I am enjoying this journey while it lasts. A sweet life does not require sugar to coat it.
NAPS PRESS: Apart from philosophy, where else does your interest lie?
BATMAN: I am a poet. A very damn good one. I am kind of very artistic with language. Aside that, I play football. I am a fan of Real Madrid - Team of God.
Wò, apart from Philosophy, I can do so many things, just put money. If there is no money, well, I can manage a girl with a body like a tender bamboo shoot
NAPS PRESS: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
BATMAN: All things being equal, I have a very strong desire to work in the force or any paramilitary organization sha. So, in the next five years, I see myself working for EFCC, at least.
NAPS PRESS: Say a word to fellow NAPSITES
BATMAN: Greatest Napsites, I want to tell you that you should make choices that you won't live to regret much. CGPA is not a scam, work harder. That date, go for it. That friend, reconcile - fight to finish pays no one. Like I said earlier, a sweet life does not require sugar to coat it. Enjoy!
