Meet Ajayi Joy; Finalist of the week
NAPS PRESS: Can we meet you ?
Joy: I am Ajayi Joy Mojolaoluwa, a 400 Level student of this great department, a writer and litigation officer.
NAPS PRESS : How would you describe your journey so far as a philosophy student
Joy: It has been an inspiring and expository journey so far; philosophy has made me to be opened to several analysis in different walks of life.
NAPS PRESS: As a litigation officer, has your knowledge in Philosophy been applicable to your choice of work?
Joy: Philosophy has been of immense benefit to the fundamental and non- basic aspect of the profession. The fundamental aspect entails case analysis and preparation of legal applications. It has also helped me greatly in sharpening my soft skills; time management, attention to detail and good interpersonal skills at work and generally.
NAPS PRESS: Having been a litigation officer, one can assert that the notion of "with philosophy you can work anywhere" is quite realistic. Do you have a prior opinion to this?
Joy: Oh yes. Philosophy set a good bedrock for any profession you want to be an expert in. Although, you will have to go the extra mile by making more research and if possible take a course or skill in your desirable field.
NAPS PRESS: Asides philosophy what else does your interest lies? Joy: A whole lot, just taking it one step at a time.
Joy: I would so much love to venture and invest in education, transportation and real estate.
NAPS PRESS: What do you think the department should improve on ?
Joy: I think the department have to enlarge our syllabus to include courses that will be applicable to our contemporary world; courses and tasks that will instigate our critical and reflective Ideas to contribute meaningfully and solve practical issues in the society. I believe that courses will prepare us for the outside walls of the university better.
NAPS PRESS: What do you intend to do with your Philosophy degree?
Joy: It’s a two way thing, if everything go as planned I will do my post graduate studies in Logic and lecture. If not I will use my philosophy degree as a stepping stone to be an expert in the administrative sector.
NAPS PRESS: What advice would you give to freshmen who intends to cross to another department due the “abstractness” of philosophy?
Joy: I think the issue of crossing comes mainly from the fear of, “what can I do with this course?” “How can I make money with this course?”
Hey pal, Philosophy is not totally abstract when you get used to the discipline you can apply it to every aspect of your life. Also if you are smart and intelligent in philosophy, “you can work anywhere”. So just know what you want and make the right decision(s).
NAPS PRESS: Any advice to all Napsites?.
Joy: Read well. Eat well. Keep the right company. Set your goals, work towards it, the sky is your starting point.
NAPS PRESS: Shout out to anyone?
Joy: A big shout to my level mates, I love you all
