Classics, who lost their captain, Bobola, to a red card in their round of 16 game against Animal Science where they won 2-1, were able to progress to the semifinals. Classics have been relentless in the tournament so far.
Classics defeated Sociology by two unbeatable goals in their Quarter final game and have now qualified for the semifinals where they would be squaring against Geography.
Philosophy on the other hand defeated Psychology in the Round of 16 by a lone goal while knocking out Political Science on penalties.
Interestingly, the pair have knocked out three of the four teams of the Social Sciences in the tournament so far. A Classics’ victory against Geography will attest that all the Social Sciences teams have died by the swords of the Arts departments.
At least, one of the two teams will have a chance to compete in the final. On the more interesting side, an all Arts final might be looming.
Both teams have been faculty rivals in recent years. Philosophy has beaten Classics in the finals of the Deans Cup at least twice in recent years, while Classics knocked out Philosophy early in the last Dean’s Cup, denying Philosophy in the Super 4.
It remains to be seen whether both teams will take their Faculty rivalry to the biggest stage very soon.
