Dean of Students Issues Memorandum on Students’ Conduct

On the 28th of March, 2023, the Student Affairs Division via the Dean of Students issued an internal memorandum regarding the conduct held during student organised activities.

In said Memorandum, he stated that 'All carnivals mounted to create awareness about events/Hall Students Week/Dinner should only process through the major roads on the campus, and on no account should such a carnival enter any Hall of Residence. All Carnival processions must be accompanied by members of the University Security Unit' This was asserted as always with the safety of the students as the first priority of the Student Affairs Division.

Furthermore, a curfew was set on dinners taking place in any Hall of Residence, Department or Faculties, the memorandum stated that aside from all events taking place within the premises of the campus, they are to end by 9:30pm and there has to be the presence of a supervisory body as such as  the Hall Warden/Assistant Warden/Staff Adviser in attendance, and it goes without saying that any all all events of this nature must be approved by Dean of Students.

The actions taken by the Student Affairs Division and the Dean might have been spurred on by the unrest going on outside the gates of the campus and these rules being implemented should perhaps be regarded as an attempt to safeguard the students to the best of their measures.
