SMILC: Oyo VP Ikenna of Nat'l Library Assoc. Urges Students to Go Digital

Mrs Ikenna, the vice president of the National Library Association, Oyo State, has urged students to learn digital skills to navigate the digital landscape.

She mentioned this while speaking at the colloquium organized by the Student Media and Information Literacy Club in partnership with the Union of Campus Journalists, university of Ibadan to commemorate this year’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week on Wednesday.

This year’s colloquium themed; MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY IN DIGITAL SPACES:  A COLLECTIVE GLOBAL AGENDA was held at the student representative council chambers, SUB building.

She said, “Youth should develop digital skills in media information literacy. You must have the ability to navigate the digital landscape by critically evaluating the information to promote peace and intercultural dialogue in society.”

“Having media information literacy skills enables us to make informed decisions and gives a competitive opportunity edge.” She said further.

She also advised the government to fund media information literacy programs and youths to engage actively in the project.

While addressing the attendees, UCJ UI president, Oluwatobi Odeyinka appreciated the club for partnering with the union in commemoration of this year’s media week.

“On behalf of all members of the UCJ, I would like to commend SMILC for putting this event in place and partnering with the UCJ to commemorate this year's media week.” He said.

He also reiterated the strong commitment of the union to promoting information media literacy.

“We have always maintained dissemination of information in a professional and credible manner. We are also committed to promoting media and information literacy.”
