PG Room: the Haven of Indecorous Night Readers

Makinde Raphael Tobi

The post-graduate room (PG room) of the philosophy department has over time been set aside for philosophy students, both postgraduate and undergraduate students, to ensure that they study in a serene and conducive haven at night.

To keep failure aloof, philosophy and even non-philosophy students have made the PG room a library where they do their nocturnal reading. However, the attitude of the so-called night readers of which the majority are philosophy students, is not in alignment with the tenets of serious-minded students and is least expected from budding philosophers involved in introspection.

Since the inception of this new academic session, deliberate complaints, reports, and objective appraisal have shown that students who visit the PG room at night make deafening noise by perpetually engaging in arguments and discussions capable of frustrating and infuriating focused readers. One cannot go wrong by inferring that philosophy students now intentionally leave their rooms at night only to come to the PG room and disturb the serious readers with chit-chat and noise-making frivolities.

The TDB passengers should imbibe the truism of the adage that says, "Do not bite the finger that feeds you", as it is ingenious of the departmental management to grant the students access to such a cozy and well-conditioned room for night reading. Therefore, all students of philosophy and night readers should regulate their dispositions in the PG room, at night. Noise making is a grievous offense in any reading environment such as PG room. Thus, anyone found guilty of such an indecorous attitude should be conceived as an enemy of scholarship.

In encapsulation, cognizance should be taken to the wise saying that the just also suffer when the lawbreakers are punished' Hence, should this abuse of PG room continue unabated, the authority of the department will have no choice than forbid the students from using the PG room for night reading. If obedience is better than sacrifices, then, strictly, night readers in the PG room should comport themselves responsibly.
