UI'SU President Addresses issues affecting students

The president of the students' union, University of Ibadan, Samson Samuel Tobiloba (Host) has given reports on the efforts the body had put in place in order to tackle the challenges being faced by the students. 

He mentioned this at the congress held on Saturday while addressing the students at the SUB Foyer as the chairman of the congress.

Addressing the students, Host commended the turnout of the students for the congress in which he stated that this is the first Congress after the last one that was held six years ago on May 27,2017.

He said, "Today we have come together to find a way forward to our challenges. We have been sustaining the union since its resuscitation in 2017. We are aware of the dying culture of the union in UI. Let’s make use of this opportunity to find solutions to our problems as we are not here to  fight.”
While presenting the report of the council of faculty presidents, chairman faculty of faculty presidents, 

Hon Fiyin Atimmo urged students who have not paid the laboratory and studio levies to exercise patience and hold on for the payment until the issue is resolved, adding that the council of faculty presidents is committed to projecting the interests and welfare of the student populace.

Hon Fiyin said, “The union is faced with challenges of school fees hike. We are informed that the school management is not aware of this fee. There has been a lot of back and forth between the Student union and the faculty executive members. Where we stand currently. I would like to tell students who haven’t paid this fee to hold on until something is done. 
"16 members of the council of faculty presidents are committed to representing the interest of the students and the SU body general are working effortlessly in representing the general interest of the students.”  He added.

Hon Olabanji Olaniyan, the chairman of the council of hall chairpersons, said that the council had facilitated several meetings with the dean of students' affairs while reeling out the steps that have been implemented on the issue of hike in transport fees, increment in the price of food and the poor state of hostel rooms and facilities.

Hon Olaniyan said, “We have had a price control committee. we had a constructive meeting with the Dean of Students on the school fee hike, the toilet facilities, inadequate water supply, the pumping machine that is not functioning well, the poor state of reading rooms and hostels poorly painted, and several maintenance facilities in the hall. All these problems persist despite the increase in utility fees, and hostel fees.”

The SU president while responding to the issue of POS charges students pay at cafeterias said that a committee will be set up to address it. He has also directed students not to add any charges to fees that are less than #1000 as regards the issue of charges in the cafeterias.
