Welcome to the New Normal

It's been a long ride! Welcome back to the varsity! It's the beginning of a new normal for every one of us. It's been a tiring year for us and we thirst for resumption just like the deer panteth. It's no news that accommodation will not be available for students as it is a virtual semester but the frustration of staying at home has reached the peak for almost all students as Agbowo and its environs are filled to the brim. Just like someone said: The University of Ibadan is filled with students asides from the classes and hostels. Everyone is going around catching up, some finalists finishing their clearance and some lurking around the school premises to see if they can catch a bit and a tad of the latest updates about how the semester will be.

As it is a first for the university to do virtual teaching so is it for some students. It's the third week of resumption and lectures are yet to begin. It was almost sure that ceteris paribus; all things being equal, lectures will commence on Monday, 8th of March but it's Tuesday and nothing yet. We hope and pray we don't end this week just like the previous two weeks.

It is going to be a long one for all students but do not break, the mighty one is with you. We don't have the perfect words to say but take full advantage of the current state of affairs. During the pandemic, many have resulted to doing various things to maintain their sanity and improve themselves. Some students are learning or learnt a trade, many are into business(at least 3 out of 5 students are now CEOs), some working with companies already, while some are interning at different organizations. The list is endless. It's definitely a good move but always remembers, you're still a student of the university(we hope you're). That should come first before anything else. The educational system in Nigeria may be dilapidated (which is one of the reasons we are receiving silent treatment from the school management) but school is not a scam. Don't be deceived! That friend of yours that constantly blows this into your ears is busy burning the midnight candles. Take the lectures seriously, create a conducive learning environment for yourself, submit assignments, judiciously take notes and prioritize your time

You don't need a new To-Do app, you just need to discipline yourself and stop procrastinating. There is every likelihood that there will be tons of assignments and group work so don't wait till the morning of the set deadline to start the assignment or group project(like most of us often do). Start immediately you have been told what to submit. You may come up with a defense that inspiration comes at the twelfth hour and you still manage to meet up with the time. But deep down, you know that's not your best. Why don't you start scribbling things down and constantly editing to get a near-perfect work. While some people believe that it is nearly impossible to increase your CGPA as one move to the next level, it is just almost, it is not impossible. Work on your grades and at the same time serve in your full capacity whatever position you are in.

Silver and gold we have none but these treasures we give to you. To every students willing to give this semester their best and to those who want to vibe along as wellCheers to a hopefully beautiful semester!
