Replaying Seals Cup Final: POV of Political Science Student

REILO

Flashback to the Grand Finale of the Seal's Cup, I was so excited to go watch my department bring back the cup to the faculty. Geography brought it home in 2022, and it becomes our obligation to win the cup for the second time for the faculty. Heard that Philosophy made it to the finals last year but geography beat them to it and we are here to do that again. Just as my president said in the interview after our match with MBBS, we've kept our second goal against MBBS for Philosophy. Shebi "pesin wey lack epistemology no fit beat pesin wey dey do epistemology?” we go see now.

Fast forward to 4 p.m., and we were all still waiting for the match to begin. It seemed like the UI SU guys Vs the Hall chairpersons were trained by a professional coach. The match was so captivating to watch. Such professionalism from the different bodies. The football skills displayed by the players were top-notch. The never-ending match ended and the long-awaited final match between my department and the green department began.

I looked to my right and I noticed some students of the Department of Philosophy holding up cardboards to cheer up their players. Lol! One guy even had his face painted green. Lol! Then I noticed some had green ribbons tied to their heads and wrists. What got me laughing was the fact that many of them were wearing a touch of green. Aww! Such a supporting fan club. These guys have good PR services in their department though. Unfortunately, all these would only make their loss more interesting. Dey play!

While still analyzing the fan club of the Department of Philosophy, I heard a goal. We scored! I thought the Plato Academy wouldn't even give us the room to score a goal and here we are. In less than #30 minutes, a goal! It is today we shall know the men from the boys. I cheered on our players. Philosophy can say goodbye to this cup already. With all their PR services they do see goal score. We continued our defense game till the end of the first half. Philosophy couldn't score. "Go Plato" in the mud. Let the guys who helped you clear off MBBS take the cup in peace. You said no. Well, what's a win without a good fight?

We proceeded with our defense game in the second half. I saw the prayer warriors for Plato fan club interceding for their players. A department where they question the existence of God the most? Dey play! This isn't even about prayer, it is about skills. Their players are no good match for us. Towards the end of the second half, while still mocking their fan club of the Plato Academy, I heard another goal. We scored! 2-0. Yes! Finally, we've won! A few minutes to our second goal the Ref blew the whistle. I saw my department guys run into the field, screaming "We won! We won!” I ran into the field with so much excitement. What a painful loss for Philosophy. Getting to the finals the second time and not winning.

Oh, the joy of winning! As I ran into the field I went to hug our players for a job well done. I thought philosophy scored the second goal at first till I saw that it was our player who scored. I was so glad to see it wasn't an equalizer. Such a painful one for philosophy. Despite all their PR services they lost. Saw one of them crying. Ehyah. However, we were so glad to have won the Seals Cup final. Jubilation did not stop as we all sang and praised our players.

Then it was time to be awarded the cup. After the players were given the cup, I decided to go meet a friend of mine who was amongst the players so I could also hold the cup of victory. As I moved closer my vision began to blur out. Well, it could be from the sweat dripping into my eyes. I cleaned it off but it was still blurry. I ignored it and tried to move closer. I got closer as my guy stretched the cup to me. With excitement, I stretched out my hands to receive the cup. However, as I was about to collect the cup, I felt a sharp sting in my eyes and I opened my eyes. It was a dream! It was all a dream! We lost! Pesin wey dey do epistemology don later beat Pesin wey lack epistemology! Tears brimmed as I remembered our painful loss. Then I remembered I slept off crying. Sigh! The sadness of losing.
