Undoubtedly, the African music industry keeps introducing new talents that have been blessing us with amazing sounds. From the limelight period of the likes of Rema, Ckay, Joeboy, fireboy, Ayra Star and the likes, to the recently debuted artists, the Afro music industry has significantly been evolving in the style of music and beats produced.
Recognizing this upcoming wave, Spotify, a prominent streaming platform, has highlighted a group of emerging stars from Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) whose unique sounds are set to change how we see African music. The following are the names of the artists that made the list which you should also be on the lookout for.
1. Qing Madi: Madi is a 17-year-old, female Afro music artist. She is also known as Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma. She further solidified her spot with her future with bnxn in Ole. "Ole" reached number 1 on the Apple Music Top 100 charts in Uganda and peaked at number 3 on the Nigeria Top 100. It charted at number 12 on the Turntable Official Nigeria Top 100 and entered the Official Charts Afrobeats Chart at number 16. The song has gathered over 6 million streams on Spotify.
2. Guchi: She began her music career in 2012, as a chorister in her church choir. She released her debut single, "Jennifer," in 2021. The song went viral on TikTok and helped to launch her career. She is one of the most promising young artists to emerge from Nigeria in recent years. She is sure to continue to make waves in the music industry for years to come.
3. SGaWD: SGaWD began her musical journey as a lawyer but made the brave decision to pursue her passion for music full-time. Her breakthrough came with the release of her single "Resistance" in 2021, in 2023, she released her sophomore project, "INTERMISSION," featuring popular singles like "BoyToy" and "Y U MAD?"
4. YKB: also known as Yusuf Oluwo Gbolaga.YKB began his musical career in 2010. In 2020, YKB was shortlisted for Mr Eazi's accelerator program, Empawa Africa. He was one of 29 artists from across Africa who were selected for the program. YKB released his debut EP, "Hear Me Out," in 2020.
