The Students' Union President, Samuel Samson Tobiloba (HOST), addressed the plights affecting the students, stating that the laudable achievement of his students' union led administration is the creation of a stronger union.
In a press conference held on Sunday, 14th of January, 2024 at the SRC Chambers, he made the statement while he was fielding questions from the members of Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ).
He urged the students to foster a strong relationship between the union executives and the students so that there are would be uniformity of decisions on issues affecting the students.
“The great achievement of this administration is that we have created a stronger union. The predecessor coming after this administration will have to build on the existing structure. Since the inception of union government on campus, this is the stronger union so far.”
The power of the union is in the unity of its members. If we all resolve that we want to do something, it is our responsibility to key into it. The union is what an average Uite want it to be, let us be reckoned with a voice.”
On the issue of the newly acquired Students’ Union bus, he noted that the bus is being used for the running of different activities on campus and it would be made available for students on certain modalities.
“The bus is for the union and we have been using it for different union activities on campus. It will also be made available for students but we are still working on the modalities.”
While responding to the hike in prices of food in cafeterias, the House Secretary, Oluwole Ayomide, disclosed that two meetings had been held with the students’ representative bodies in halls of residence during the first semester and the pricelist would be made public when it is ready.
He also added that the union would constitute a taskforce that will be responsible for the enforceability of the price regulations in the halls of residence.
