This is a trying time for workers in Nigeria, specifically, the educational sector due to the waning motivation to work. The University of Ibadan is not left out as it contends with the deplorable state of the economy.
The Department of Philosophy, however, is seen making the most of the situation by charting ways to ensure a comforting and convenient work environment through the multipurpose use of the departmental library.
The location of lectures had to be allocated to distances that pose less stress to lecturers as most lecture areas are far from the department thereby cushioning the exerting effect of long-walks to lecture rooms.
Although, this move has evidently reduce the hassle of laborious search for a convenient and available class for fixed lectures, it is disrupting the reading routine of library users.
Also, students awaiting the commencement of a lecture in the library may disturb readers seeking a conducive environment to study, and their rather tedious journey into assimilating philosophical texts may be cut short when asked to evacuate the library for a class.
A final year NAPSite also complained of inconsiderate noise-making in the library, a place that's supposed to be a safe haven for studying.
This is not without the struggle for the use of the limited facilities in the library at the detriment of durability, if not properly managed.
The management should set binding rules and regulations to regulate the use of the library including defining its specific use within a certain period.
While the Department of Philosophy continues to make lemonade out of the 'lemonic' Nigeria situation, may the tight grip of the economic plummet loosen on workers and satisfactory work and learning environment reign for all.
