Are you a big fan of candies, especially Kona Cafe candies, splash, and the like? Then you are going to love this delicious low-budget recipe for Ghana Toffee candy. Let's make some!
INGREDIENTS NEEDED
•1 ¾ cup of Sweetened Condensed Milk
•Vegetable Oil
If you do not have condensed milk or you are unable to get one, follow these steps to make one from scratch.
Condensed Milk Ingredients
▪︎1 cup instant dry milk powder
▪︎2/3 cup granulated sugar
▪︎1/3 to ½ cup boiling water
▪︎¼ cup unsalted butter, melted(optional)
▪︎Vanilla Extract(optional)
Instructions
Add milk powder, granulated sugar, 1/3 cup of boiling water, and melted butter in a blender (if you are adding butter). Blend all ingredients until they are smooth.
OR
Mix sugar and milk in a medium saucepan.
Place saucepan over medium heat and let boil.
Let the milk simmer for about 20-30 minutes until the milk is reduced by half and thickened.
Remove from the heat and whisk in unsalted butter and vanilla extract.
Voila! Your condensed milk is ready for your toffee.
Toffee Instructions
1- In a medium pan on medium heat, add two tablespoons of vegetable oil and heat the pan for a few minutes.
2- Add the Sweetened Condensed Milk (usually 1 ¾ cup) and mix continuously until the milk becomes thick and brown (around 15 to 20 minutes).
3- Sprinkle a dash of oil on a cutting board and rub your palms with just a bit of oil.
4 - Transfer the candy to the lightly oiled surface and let it cool a bit (2-5 minutes).
5 - Take a tablespoonful of candy and roll it into a long shape (Repeat until all candies are rolled)
5 – Finally, use a sharp knife and cut each candy into smaller sizes.
I guess Ghana has more to offer Nigerians than sweet banter and Jollof rice debates, after all. Enjoy!
