During the Level Representative Council (LRC) sitting on Friday, 26th of July, 2024, a bill was introduced to the house, sponsored by Honourable Ifeoluwa Emmanuel Akinwumi.
The bill was titled: A Bill for an Act to Amend the Title of the Level Representative Committee in the National Association of Philosophy Students.
It proposed to change the LRC title from Level Representative Committee to Level Representative Council.
“Dear Honorable members, in mainstream legislation it is globally known that the legislature is a Council that primarily makes law as given and are as well of equal responsibility and commitment as the Executive arms delineated within a polity. It is therefore imperative that the legislature be accorded the title of a council instead of a committee within our dear department.”
The bill also proposed to amend some sections in association’s constitution. That the LRC be made up of 15 honourable members, 3 from 100 level and 4 each from other levels. Likewise, that the Principal offices be Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Clerk and Chief Whip.
“PRAYER ONE (1)
i. That the LRC be made up of 15 honorable members.
ii. That the members should be 3 from 100level constituency, 4 from 200level constituency, 4 from 300level constituency and 4 from 400level constituency.
PRAYER TWO (2)
i. That the principal offices should be:
● Speaker
● Deputy Speaker
● Clerk
● Chief Whip
ii. That Article (25) of the constitution be replaced with (i) mentioned above and that every corresponding title be effected in that regard.”
These amendments were suggested in place of 7 honourable members, 1 from 100 level constituency and 2 each from other level constituencies and the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary as the Officers of the LRC according to the constitution in use.
