U.I Academic Calendar: Extension of the
First semester 2020/2021 Session by Few Weeks
According to the 2020/2021 University
of Ibadan academic calendar, by the middle of May to its end, examinations
would have closed in finally. But the question is; are UI students confident
about their readiness and preparedness for the examination, considering the new
alien teaching method and the late commencement of lectures for the semester?
Most departments have not covered many
grounds since the semester started due to the fact that some departments
started receiving proper lectures in the middle of the semester because they
were trying to master and understand the usage of most virtual classes
applications.
In addition, the system has not been favorable
for the hardcopy-reading-materials lovers, as almost all reading materials are
soft copies including GES.
This has been an issue of great
concern as most students do not find it comfortable reading for long hours on
their phones and laptops, as we all know what comes with staring at screens for
so long.
Also, due to the "supersonic
speed" most lecturers adopt while
lecturing, some students find it difficult to take down notes from classes to
complement the virtual class discussions. More so, due to data management, when
recorded classes are sent with about ''60MB" cost, most students ignore as
there are large files to be downloaded. When one fragment of a course costs
''60MB'', how do we attend the other classes?
Despite all these, without being able
to comprehend the new system and the new courses, yet exams approach with all
its fierceness.
Another quick question; should we
support the appeal for the extension of another semester?
