Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has written the nation a New year letter addressed particularly to the Nigerian youths, calling o compatriots and friends to set aside the past and the sediments inherited from our parents and vote with Nigeria in mind. The 6-page letter shocked the nation, shaking it to her roots like never before. The letter titled “MY APPEAL TO ALL NIGERIANS PARTICULARLYYOUNGNIGERIANS” was written in uppercase to emphasize urgency.
In this letter, he stated that he had met with the candidates and after interacting with them and employing his TVCP factors (Track RecordofAbility and Performance, Vision that is authentic, honest and realistic, Character and attributes of a lady and a gentleman who are children of God and obedient to God and Physical and mental capability with soundness of mind as it is a very taxing and tasking assignment at the best of times) and all other considerations, he emerged with Peter Obi as the prime candidate for the upcoming presidential elections. One can regard the letter to be scandalous, so here is to ensure that every youth and adults make the right choice and to give reasons why Obasanjo’s endorsement is not the absolute best choice for Nigerians.
Peter Obi is Far Too Young To Be President
It might shock you to hear this but Peter Obi is far too young to be president. The man is just 61 years old, he does exemplify the notion of "Not too young to run for a political position" Everyone knows that with age comes experience. Who cares that the older candidates can barely hold up the papers as they are giving a speech? Besides, one can say for sure that Nigerians are already used to spending a huge chunk of our budget flying out our president for health check ups every other day? With Peter Obi in office, who will be there to give us jump scares everytime they cough as we look on with bated breathes, wondering if this is going to mean another field trip. Peter Obi being in office would definitely rob Nigerians of seeing their president going to renowned countries to experience a top notch medical service.
Change is a Very Dangerous Thing
We've had a good thing going for the past couple of decades, recycling the two same political parties over and over, rendering useless the other spots on the ballot papers. We have made ourselves a nice and familiar rhythm and veering off that path now could lead to dangerous consequences. Don’t you remember what happened the last time we embraced ‘Change?’- if you do, that’s only more reason to choose the right candidate. After all, don’t we always say ‘The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t’? so let’s keep choosing what’s familiar, let’s keep choosing the devil while the angel sobs from the distance, practically begging on its knees to help us. After all, what’s the worse that could happen? Nigeria could stay exactly the way it is or there might be a greater change than the "change" we are experiencing right now. We do have a role to play after all.
What does Obasanjo knows?
Obasanjo endorses Peter Obi to be president but what does he know about being a president or even being a good president? Yes, he did increased the wage of workers without any union action, introduced GSM to Nigeria, making it possible for us to use phones and subsequently internet, Of course it would also be unthinkable to phantom that Obasanjo would even care about the country despite his efforts while in power toquell ethnic unrest and boost Nigeria’s economy via the ‘Feed The Nation’campaign. Such a man must be like all the rest, only interested inlininghis pockets, right? or probably he wants he endorsed candidate to bring about good governance, at least Nigerians deserve a "messiah".
Baba Broke The Rules
This is possibly the most important point yet. Read carefully, Dear readers. By endorsing Peter Obi, Obasanjo broke the rules! Now you may be wondering ‘what rule?’ Well, only the most clear cut rule of all. The-one that states that you can only endorse a candidate from your party or more specifically, your tribe. Ah yes, everyone knows that politics is very much a tribal game in Nigeria and our Baba just broke the rules like that . Putting aside his ethnic differences or that of his ascribed political party to endorse someone from a completely different party, a completely different tribe even. It’s unheard of. Such a selfless and brave move can only be hiding deceit. Because as everyone knows, actually uniting under the spirit of what Nigeria is supposed to be is just a pipe dream, one that shouldn’t be attempted to attain as we all sing the national anthem and pretend like we aren’t just fighting for which tribe is ‘better’. Tribal sentiment is the matter of the moment, putting it aside leaves
Nigeria in a state of disarray. Baba asserted that " Emi lokan" meaning my turn is a wrong attitude to leadership". He was apparently throwing a swipe at the standard bearer of the All Progressive Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu who claims to have paid his "dues" and it is turn to held the presidential position. Maybe he truly deserve this power, time will surely tell.
Paying heed to Obasanjo’s endorsement does not make his candidate, thebest of them all. Eligible voters have the right to vote their most preferred candidate regardless of Baba's endorsement. we can carry on with Nigeria, exactly the way it is for the next four or many years to come If we don't get it right in the coming elections. The Ex president is definitely right about one thing, it is time for every eligible voters especially the youth to decide their future. So remember, vote carefully and may the best candidate win after all.
