First and best as it is fondly called is not just a place that is laden with serious faces and core academic activities. It is also a place filled with beautiful sights to behold and nice activities going on. These fine places do not only help you unwind after a tedious academic day, it also helps you host your guests and watch students and other individuals go about their daily activities. They are also good places to meet your loml or cool your head after every constant and back to back shege that UI shows you.
Below here is a list of fine places in UI that you should check out and take your time to visit. The list is not an exhaustive one as the University of Ibadan as a whole is a spec, however, we're cutting the list down to five.
1. Heritage Park
Heritage park is located directly opposite the Queen Elizabeth II hall just close to the gate. It is filled with trees, flowers and statues, all of which are attractive and can make you want to observe and think deep about nature, reality and the universe as the philosopher that you are. Heritage park is also packed with concrete benches where you can sit and admire nature at its peak. Apart from its ability to help you relax, it is also an awesome background for pictures.Students and other people from all over Ibadan come to heritage park to snap pictures, and almost every Ibadan pre-wedding photoshoot or birthday shoot took place in heritage park...........amazing, innit?
2. Economics building
Located beside the faculty of the Social Sciences and in front of the faculty of Education, the economics building ever since it's construction has provided picture lovers over the years with a perfect background for pictures. In fact, almost every UIte has used this building as background picture at some point in their lives. You cannot help but fall in love with the combination of the colours of the building, the ground and the flowers around. This might sound weird, but one of these days, rather than sticking to your table and chair in your room trying to read and understand that difficult course, you should sit around this economics building to enjoy its sight and watch picture lovers do their thing. This will help yourelax and refresh your brain for more academic activities. Sounds good right? I know.
Just as the name implies, love garden is a place where you get to fall in love with both the sight you see and also fall deeper in love with your loml. Love garden is located behind trenchard hall, directly opposit both Mellanby and Tedder halls. Packed with seats scattered here and there and with the flowers aligning every shade, you might want to spend your whole day in love garden. How about the trees? Passers by? People like you who came to relax? It is a place you should visit often. Who knows, as single to stupor as you are, you might find love among one of those people who also came to observe the beauty of the garden, just like you.
4. Awo hall basketball court
Yes, I mean Awo hall, the only living hall in UI, you can argue with your chi. But have you tried checking out Awo's basketball court? You really need to. Even if you are not into sports or "basketballing," Awo hall's basketball court will help you develop ardent love for basketball. Go and verify. But if you have coconut head and refuse to allow its charm engulf you or create in you the love for basketball, you can just sit around there and watch people who are love struck by this sport play while you cheer them. This will also help you relax and unwind.
5. Botanical garden
Such a beaut! Filled with different kinds of trees, small concreteshades with hut-like roofs and a perfect playground. What more do you need? How about local food? Palm wine? Everything is there. If you need a place to clear your mind probably after UI must haveproven to you that you know nothing like always and you feel dejected and unwilling to continue, hurry to batanical garden, take deep breaths into the garden's air, rest your back onto one of the concrete seats, and if you do not mind, get a bottle of chilled drink and watch your depression fizzle out. Botanical garden is located not too far from the faculty of veterinary medicine.
