"We Never Neglected Our Duties or Responsibilities as Executives," 'Peggie-led' Excos Respond

"We Never Neglected Our Duties or Responsibilities as Executives," 'Peggie-led' Excos Respond

The 2021/2022 Executive Council of the National Association of Philosophy Students has responded to the released LRC financial audit report, saying assigned duties and responsibilities were never neglected.

This was revealed in a letter of apology to NAPSites on Sunday and signed by the Ex-president of the council, Ibok Imeobong Umoh and the present acting PRO, Adeniji Julius Adebola.

In the letter, the executive members gave reasons for executing financial transactions without proper authorization or documentation as alleged in the general audit report after which an apology to NAPSites followed.

It stated, " the LRC’s usage of the phrase “evidence was uncovered” presents the situation as being hidden, masterminded or lied about, and this was not the situation with regards to the plaques and certificates. For something that was shared openly, it wouldn’t pass for that description. The plaques and certificates were subsumed under the plan for the dinner and award night, and just like the dinner budget was not submitted before the event, we couldn’t do same for the plaques and certificates.

It further reads, "Also, the tone of the LRC’s letter on the phrase “negligence of duty” gives off the impression of a lackadaisical and nonchalant attitude towards responsibility, and this was not the case. Except this conclusion came from the late submission of the above budgets for approval before execution, I make bold to say that, we never neglected our duties or responsibilities as executives. This doesn’t mean we were entirely without blemish, since as humans, our strength is
allowed to fail us, and as the Holy Bible says ‘by strength shall no man prevail’. Beyond these weaknesses and times of frailties, we paid utmost attention to our roles and duties."
It is important to note, that this letter isn’t aimed at countering what the LRC’s audit says, but to properly explain the situation to NAPSITES, and also apologise for actions that were inappropriate. Constitutionally, budgets are to be presented before execution, and this, we failed..." it added.
